Branston's new MD, James Truscott

Potato giant Branston has posted a £10.4 million pre-tax profit on a £115m turnover.

The Lincolnshire-based business' announcements follows similarly large growths in profit by fellow potato firms, E Park & Son, and Puffin Produce.

The figures, held at Companies House, cover the year ending 27 July 2014. The previous financial year, Branston recorded a turnover of £130m, and a pre-tax profit of £341,000.

Branston managing director, James Truscott, said: 'We have recovered strongly from a tough 2013. The reduced raw material costs were the biggest factor, but ongoing focus on optimising our supply chains and driving efficiency in our factories delivered significant benefits.

'Ultimately, we remain in good financial shape to continue invest in growing our business and that of our customers and growers.'
