Brammy Awards to feature People's Choice

The Bramley Apple Campaign is to run its first People’s Choice Award at its annual Brammy Awards.

The event recognises and rewards excellence in the use and promotion of Bramley apples.

UK consumers will this year be able to vote for their favourite apple pie from a shortlist of four from Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Morrisons.

Recognition will also be given to chefs, retailers and foodservice organisations that have shown support for the Bramley in the past year.

A panel of experts including top food writer Diana Henry, Karen Barnes from The Good Housekeeping Institute, Sam Fortescue from The Grocer and Bramley Campaign chairman Ian Mitchell will judge the entries.

Mitchell said: “More than half of all Bramley apples go into the processing market, so it is important that we celebrate those manufacturers, retailers and others who make the most of Bramleys’ special qualities - and consumers’ desire for them as an ingredient.”

The awards range from Best Bramley Media Chef and Best Bramley Recipe Writer to Best Multiple Retailer Best Catering, Food Service or Manufacturing Company and the Chairman’s Award.

The product categories include The People’s Choice Award: Best Bramley Apple Pie, best Apple Pie, Best Other Bramley Dessert including Crumble, Best Savoury Bramley Product and Best Bramley Juice.
