This year’s Bramley crop is expected to weigh in at 51,000 tonnes, roughly the same volume as last year, despite a smaller average size profile.

However, English Apples & Pears chief executive told FPJ that the cooking apple crop could still be lower than the latest official figure, released by EAP last week. “At this stage, the size of some of the fruit is obviously indeterminable and I would not be surprised if we see a five per cent drop on this estimate to somewhere in the region of 48,000t,” he said.
