The development at the Ardeer site is halfway to completion

British Polythene Industries is reporting good progress with a £7 million investment project at its Ardeer site.

The business, which offers products such as polytunnel films and crop cover films, commissioned the project in September 2009 with a view to shaping its Ardeer factory into one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe.

Part-funded by a Regional Selective Assistance grant from the Scottish government, the large-scale project will see the construction of two new extrusion halls in order to house several lines being transferred from the BPI’s Stockton site, as well as a brand new, state-of-the-art wide film line.

Once operational, this additional wide film line will add to the manufacturer’s production capacity and capabilities. It will allow higher volumes of polytunnel film and other large products to be produced in less time, while also enabling BPI to extend its range by exploiting the latest innovations in wide film production technology.

With the 12-month investment project now just under halfway through, BPI confirms that work is progressing as planned. One of the new extrusion halls has already been completed and the other is currently under construction. A number of the new lines are also in place and are either up and running or in the process of being commissioned.

John Langlands, chief executive of British Polythene Industries, said: “The investment at our Ardeer facility isn’t just great news for BPI, but also more importantly for our customers. It will enable us to build on our established range and to offer these products with greater speed, efficiency and quality assurances than ever before."
