Borough scoops speciality prize

London’s Borough Market has been awarded with the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) Best Speciality Market 2008 Award. The NABMA Award Ceremony will be held at a special breakfast at Roast restaurant in Borough Market at 9.30am on April 9.

Borough Market is renowned throughout the UK for its excellence in fresh food and its wide range of traders. NABMA’s chief executive Graham Wilson said that the market had that “little extra ingredient that persuaded the judges it was a worthy winner”.

The market is a combination of wholesale and retail, with wholesale fruit and vegetable trading taking place at night and retail trading taking place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Many of the market’s retailers have also started to trade wholesale, which the Trustees see as part of the market’s regeneration.

The NABMA Award is the third in a line of awards that Borough Market has won since November last year. The market also won the Evening Standard London’s Best Shopping Experience Award and Best Market Award before Christmas.
