Blackcurrants can help fight the deadly hospital superbug MRSA, according to new research.
The study, by Dundee-based Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI), showed the berries contain special compounds that can stop MRSA growth.
Tests also demonstrated that the fruit could also put a stop to other bacteria such as salmonella and listeria.
The fruit has already been proven to help prevent Alzheimer’s, as well as cancer and hear disease.
Derek Stewart, who led the SCRI analysis, said: “It is clear that the natural compounds found in blackcurrants show a diverse range of anti-microbial activities.”
