Black Diamond antioxidant boost

A study conducted in the US by the Produce for Better Health Foundation, in collaboration with the US department of agriculture, has revealed that Sun World proprietary plum Black Diamond contains very high levels of antioxidants.

The study analysed 25 top fruits for their antioxidant capacity, with Black Diamond coming second in high levels of flavonoids and a high total oxygen radical absorbance capacity.

Foods that rank at the top of the list for antioxidants can help slow the processes associated with aging in both body and brain, as well as boost the immune system.

For this study a ‘market basket’ sampling technique was used, collecting samples from supermarkets in 24 cities (rural, urban and suburban), that statistically represent the US population. The purpose of the study was to develop the most comprehensive standardised phytonutrient database to date.

Over a span of five years, the Black Diamond brand has quickly grown in popularity due to the consistent large size and sweet taste of the extended line of plums, which have burgundy-red to dark purple-black skin, with a deep red raspberry flesh.

Black Diamond also has a 30 per cent higher sugar content than comparable black plums, and consumers prefer it two to one over other black plums, said Sun World.

Black Diamond brand plums are available now through to mid- to late August. Retail promotional support is available, supporting its health benefits.
