A fresh produce veteran has set up a new company that aims to shorten the supply chain and benefit the environment.

Director Andy Beale launched Corefresh Ltd at the beginning of this month with the aim of supplying into retail, foodservice and processing businesses.

The firm, based in Swanley, Kent, has a small team led by Beale, who has 18 years’ produce experience at Fyffes, Del Monte and Capespan, which he left at the end of May.

The business will be in melons, pineapples, grapes and citrus, as well as soft-, top- and stonefruit.

Beale told FPJ: “The main reason we set up the business is because I think there are better ways of getting fruit through to consumers and working on smaller margins. Under our model, supermarkets can get to a more realistic selling price, growers can receive better returns and we can give something back as well, without bringing fruit through three or four different processes.”
