BCGA to showcase varietal advances

The British Carrot Growers’ Association (BCGA) will showcase 35 varieties at its annual open day in October.

The Variety and Trade Exhibition in Nottinghamshire will include varieties from seven seed companies including Elsoms, Nickersons, Clause Tezier, Seminis, Nunhems, Agiseeds and Rijk Zwaan.

The BCGA said the importance of efficient irrigation systems after a difficult growing season and the use of environmentally unfriendly plastic crop covers for year-round production will be hot topics at the event.

There is a significant commercial opportunity for manufacturers and distributors of degradable crop covers to supply the British carrot industry if the right material and production system can be developed, according to the BCGA.

The organisation is inviting any firms with a commercial interest in carrot production to attend its exhibition.
