Norbert runs the Perishables Handling Centre at Heathrow

British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has renewed its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for a further five years following more than a decade in partnership.

Originally appointed by BAWC in 1998, Norbert Dentressangle Logistics UK operates BAWC’s 69,000 sqft Perishables Handling Centre at Heathrow Airport.

In 2010, the centre is expected to handle around 120,000 tonnes of fresh produce including fruits, vegetables, flowers, prepared foods, seafood, meat, fish and dairy products.

Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for all activities within the centre including on-site customs clearance, container unloading, sorting of consignments to individual customer orders, blast cooling, storage and stock control in segregated cold stores, Quality Control inspection and shelf life testing, labelling and order picking, store tray assembly and onward distribution to retailers’ RDCs.

The company also operates BAWC’s EU and DEFRA approved Border Inspection Post for seafood, meat and dairy products requiring Health inspection on arrival.

Consignments of fresh produce arriving from BAWC’s three London gateways at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted are transferred to the centre in refrigerated vehicles.

BAWC are involved in an ongoing row with a group of companies at the site who claim the partnership has a monopoly at Heathrow.

Last week, Norbert Dentressangle reported revenues for the first nine months of 2010 totaled €2,113 million, up 4.1 per cent on the €2,031m reported for the corresponding 2009 period.

In addition to its work with BAWC, Norbert Dentressangle Logistics UK provides a range of specialist aviation logistics services to customers including Alpha Airports Group plc and Manchester Airports Group.
