Barker’s novel available for digital download

FPJ editor Michael Barker’s debut novel is now available on Kindle.

The Improbable Tale of How I Saved the Universe is a first person sci fi comedy. It follows the extraordinary journey of Tam Husband, a struggling journalist who pursues the ultimate scoop from the frozen wastelands of Antarctica to the depths of outer space.

Inadvertently caught up in a vengeful alien race’s dastardly plot to destroy all of civilisation, Tam joins a misfit group of characters and becomes the universe’s unlikely final hope against total annihilation.

From the secluded iron planet Fiz-Yelda to the mysterious Valley of Frozen Souls, Tam’s journey takes in some of the most mind-boggling locations imaginable with a cast of characters they will come to love.

The book beat off 5,000 overall entrants to reach the final 14 in the science fiction category in the 2011 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. US magazine Publisher’s Weekly praised its “light, consistent and fun tone” and the official Amazon review panel described it as a “very witty, flowing novel”.

The book is available now to buy from Amazon.co.uk in Kindle format. It is on sale for a limited time for the special introductory price of just 83p.
