Franco-Moroccan salad producer Azura Group will start exporting its production to the UK this week.

The Azura range specialises in tomato production and the company has developed its range Gourmet, with products such as baby plum tomatoes, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes and cocktail plum tomatoes.

Due to demand, Azura increased its production from 735 hectares to 824ha this year, and predicts that its total volume export will stand at 80,000 tonnes in the 2008-09 season, which includes 75,000t of tomatoes.

Azura is also working on developing the eating quality of its production of Charentais melons and of clementines. To guarantee top-quality melons, Azura has invested in a new machine that evaluates sugar content and quality.

Azura exports melons in the Christmas and Easter season, and clementines from November until the end of March.

Already certified ISO 9001:2000, BRC, GlobalGAP and Nature’s Choice, Azura plans to implement SA 8000 certification in 2008-09 to comply with European markets demand.
