Number-two supermarket chain Asda has reported a significant leap in sales.
Like-for-like sales in the third quarter were up 6.9 per cent, easily fending off competition from top dog Tesco and number-three rival Sainsbury’s, which yesterday released a 3.9 per cent increase in the last quarter.
Asda believes it is benefiting from the credit crunch as more affluent shoppers enter its stores, especially from the AB category.
