Aldi has announced plans to invest £500 million in the UK market and open a further 200 stores.
The German owned discounter, has recently opened a new distribution centre in Scotland to assists its expansion into the north.
At the moment, the retailer has 278 stores in the UK but is aiming to increase that to 450 over the next five years.
In the longer term, the company estimates it can build its UK operations to around 1,500 stores and aims to move around a third of its current stores to new sites.
At the moment, the chain is struggling to make an impact on the UK market with sales of around £1.1 billion and only one per cent share of the sector.
