Discounter Aldi has reintroduced a novel way of enticing customers to spend in its stores during the 2024 Paralympics.

The supermarket chain has relaunched an initiative, first introduced during the Olympics earlier this summer, to reimburse customers who miss out on watching gold medal moments while shopping in-store.

Aldi, the official supermarket sponsor of ParalympicsGB and OlympicsTeam GB, is offering £100 in vouchers within 10 days to those shoppers paying in-store at the time of a Paralympics GB gold-medal win.

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK said: “Just like we did for the Olympics, we’ll be reimbursing shoppers who miss ParalympicsGB win gold as a small consolation for not being able to celebrate in the moment.

“Shoppers jumped at the chance to get their money back last time around and with over 200 more medal events at the Paralympics than the Olympics, even more people have the chance to win– perhaps putting the money towards a watch party for the next event so they can cheer on ParalympicsGB!”

Shoppers who miss a gold medal winning moment are advised to send a picture of their receipt to aldicompetitions@citypress.co.uk

Aldi will reimburse them in Aldi shopping vouchers worth £100 for the first 10 entrants.

The time shown on the receipt needs to be during the same minute that a ParalympicsGB athlete wins a gold medal according to the BBC Live Blog, the supermarket explained.

Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, said it has launched a host of Specialbuys to help the nation celebrate the games.
