Afco, the Spanish corrugated board association, has launched a recyclable, single-use pallet it believes is set to revolutionise fresh-produce logistics.

The new pallet is fully bio-degradable and recyclable and weighs a maximum of 6kg depending on size and comes in four different configurations to take up to 800kg: 600 x 800 x 130mm, 1,200 x 800 x 130mm and 1,200 x 1,000 x 130mm. The smallest size 600 x 400 x 130mm takes loads of up to 500kg.

“The pallet is ideal for the fresh produce sector and the idea is that it is completely recyclable,” said a spokesman for Afco. “As it does not have any nails and nor does it splinter, the risk of industrial injury is greatly reduced. It does not have to undergo the same treatments as wooden pallets and so protects human and plant health, and because it is so light it is both economical and easy to handle.”

Afco also believes that its new pallet gives good opportunity for branding given its high printable quality.
