The UK-based, autonomous international arm of Ireland’s Keelings group takes its place in the first-ever FPJ Big 50.
Boasting a turnover of £50.5 million, 80 per cent of Keelings Fresh International’s sales comes through its trade in melons and pineapples. The company works with retailers, wholesalers and foodservice businesses in the UK, Europe and, increasingly, Asia.
Speaking about its latest turnover figure, Keelings Fresh International MD Steven Fagg, says: “In the UK we gained additional share with existing customers and added some new customers.
“We continually seek to add value to our customers, and, by working as their partner rather than just a supplier, we’ve been able to build, maintain and expand successful, profitable relationships. However, our more significant growth has been on the continent.”
Keelings Fresh International underwent a major restructuring of its business model during the year, including closing its on-site packhouse.
Fagg says this was done to offer a range of more bespoke customer strategies; from full category management for some, to supply chain service provision for others.
Fagg adds: “Combining this with further Keelings group synergy initiatives will ensure we are able to add value where the customer needs us, while simultaneously removing cost from the supply chain.”
