A new study by HaciendasBio has revealed that 84 per cent of Spanish consumers buy organic products, with health and the environment cited as the main reasons for doing so.
The Spanish organic fruit and vegetable producer found that 33 per cent of the 1,000 people surveyed buy organic products regularly, 51 per cent do so occasionally and 16 per cent never include them in their shopping cart.
Moreover, it found that 46 per cent of shoppers choose organic products to take care of their health, 39 per cent because they are sustainable and 15 per cent for their flavour.
“The data shows that generally organic products are associated with health, however, they also reveal that consumers are increasingly aware of their impact on the environment,” said Silvia Llamas, HaciendasBio’s marketing manager.
“In this sense, concepts such as transparency, commitment and traceability must be the basis of all organic products to generate the trust that the consumer demands – crucial values in our company.”
HaciendasBio was founded more than 15 years ago and is Spain’s leading producer of organic fruit and vegetables, with farms in Badajoz, Almería, Tarragona, Lleida, Seville and Gran Canaria.
Its Biovivo brand spans more than 45 categories of fruit and vegetables sold in Spain.
