The group’s Field Days in the Netherlands will see a wide range of products on display, with a particularly strong spinach offering

Sakata has announced that it will showcase 14 new varieties during the 2024 edition of its Field Days event, which takes place in Zwaagdijk-Oost, the Netherlands on 24-26 September.

The Field Days gathering will also have an area dedicated to spinach, a hydroponic demonstration, an onion display and more than 100 vegetable varieties perfectly adapted to Northern European growing conditions, the group confirmed.

New varieties meet the key requirements of growers, it said, such as disease resistance, strong bolting resistance, holding ability, high yield, uniformity, processing constraints, long shelf-life and flavour.

Sakata outlined that the new product range included beets, onions, cabbages, cauliflower, spinach, squash and turnips.

”Spinach is a big hit this year with nine varieties presenting a full package… the star of the range being Figaro F1 with its strong bolting resistance,” it said.

“The hydroponic demonstration will feature pak choi. The onion display will focus on three varieties offering good storage potential, a unique red colour and uniformity.

“Sakata combines ancestral know-how and high technologies to create vegetable varieties that meet customer requirements and consumers demands, thus contributing to improving global nutrition and sustainable agriculture,” it added.
