Fresh fruit and vegetable growers in the south of the Netherlands are being given a chance to promote their products to thousands of people from around the world thanks to the construction of a temporary greenhouse right next to The Hague's Kyocera Stadium, the venue for this year's Rabobank-sponsored Hockey World Cup.
Backed by the Westland Marketing Foundation and the Dutch ministry of health, welfare and sport, the greenhouse will act as a product showcase at the event, which takes place during the first two weeks of June.
It is part of the Dutch hockey association KNHB's efforts to stimulate healthy eating and is backed by local growers who will be on hand throughout the fortnight to tempt fans with fresh fruit and vegetables.
More than 200,000 visitors from around the world, including 20,000 young people, are expected to visit the park, with a different participating country featured in the greenhouse's fresh tasting area every day.
Yex, the exotics division of Dutch firm Best Fresh Group, is one of a number of groups planning to hold a special promotional day at the greenhouse, and has said it will use the opportunity to promote sweet potatoes and its Discovered brand by holding a special USA Sweet Potato Day.
'Our USA day will revolve entirely around Discovered sweet potatoes,' explains Fleur Vreugdenhill of Best Fresh Group. 'Throughout the day, the fine dining team will be presenting no less than seven metres of delicious, heatlhy Discovered sweet potato dishes.'
