Founder Hein Deprez says group is uniquely placed to capitalise on two major trends in global food market
The founder and executive director of Greenyard, one of the world’s largest suppliers of fresh, prepared and frozen produce, has said the Belgian company is uniquely placed to capitalise on a shift in consumer demand towards healthier and more sustainable food.
Hein Deprez, who was addressing shareholders at the group’s annual general meeting in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, said the healthy eating and sustainability were major trends that will define the future of food.
Despite challenging market conditions, Greenyard posted record results earlier this year, including a 10.9 per cent rise in fresh produce net sales to €5.07bn.
Last week, CEO Francis Kint and CFO Nicolas De Clercq described that strong performance as “a milestone in the company’s 40-year history” driven by “operational excellence” and a focus on its fresh and long fresh segments. The latter refers to frozen and ambient fruit and vegetable products.
Greenyard has continued to invest in state-of-the-art technology, including a new packing line.
The group confirmed its outlook for net sales of €5.4bn and adjusted Ebitda between €200m and €210m by March 2026.
