According to the fresh produce group, this year’s report ensured it was ‘future ready’ to comply with the German Supply Chain Act, the forthcoming European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and all other global due diligence legislation.

The company noted that it had achieved ”significant progress” since it began its Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) in 2019, conducted in line with the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, establishing “a solid foundation for ongoing efforts”.

Subsequent HRIAs had been carried out at Fyffes farms and with suppliers, complemented by extensive community needs assessments in Latin America, involving 2,200 interviews across 50 communities, it confirmed.

“Our aim with human rights and environmental due diligence is to be ‘future ready’,” said Fyffes chief corporate affairs officer Caoimhe Buckley. ”We continually improve our approach and last year we learned a few key lessons.”

These lesson included stakeholder centricity, supporting suppliers and sharing responsibility across the value chain when it came to rising costs, Buckley outlined.

Fyffes noted that its commitment to meeting these legislative requirements was central to its vision of ’Shaping Wellbeing for the World’.
