Ecuador has devised a new plan to help boost tourism to the country, by tying in promotional material with its world-leading position as an exporter of bananas.
The country, which exports some 24m tonnes of bananas each year, is rolling out its 'Banana Ambassador' - a country logo and QR code sticker that, when scanned with a smartphone, directs the consumer to a promotional video about Ecuador's official tourism site.
'Now, every time someone eats a banana, he or she will be closer to visiting Ecuador,' the tourism ministry videos states.
