Partnership with Sète-based logistics provider Primever expected to reduce reliance on road freight out of Spain

Dole France Sete Primever

Dole France says a new partnership with perishable logistics specialist Primever will restore the Port of Sète’s position as a key hub for imports of fruit including citrus, bananas, avocados, and mangoes.

According to the company, the collaboration represents “a significant milestone” in the development of its supply chain, and emphasises its determination to deliver an “ever more sustainable and efficient” route to market for its produce.

The partnership links the southern French port with Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Valencia in mainland Spain via a weekly Friday service.

In 2023, Dole France invested in a state-of-the-art facility in Sète, one which is equipped with modern ripenining chambers for bananas, avocados, and mangoes.

“The arrival of our first vessel last Friday, 7 March was therefore an important next step in our ongoing journey,” the company said.

Marine sustainability

The new logistics model is expected to streamline Dole’s operations in southern France, as well as reducing costs and significantly lowering its carbon footprint.

“By focusing on maritime transport and cutting back on road freight for deliveries across southern France, we are improving supply chain efficiency, streamlining distribution, and reducing CO2 emissions,” it said in a statement. “Our use of citrus packing facilities within the terminal will yield further dividends in terms of cost savings.”

A direct shipping line from West and South Africa also creates new connections to South America, it added, ensuring a steady flow of produce to southern France and the Mediterranean region while broadening its fruit sourcing options.

“Looking ahead to the second half of 2025, optimised shipping routes will strengthen our ties with South America even further. With this initiative, Dole France reaffirms its commitment to responsible, high-performance logistics – benefiting our customers, consumers, partners and the planet.”
