Spanish citrus PGI organisation Cítricos Valencianos has signed a deal with Carrefour to supply a number of the retailer’s French stores through Solagora, the recently created organics subsidiary of the Anecoop group.
José Enrique Sanz, managing director of the PGI Cítricos Valencianos regulatory council, said the agreement would strengthen the distribution of organic citrus from the Valencia region in France.
“By marketing certified organic citrus under such a prestigious brand as Cítricos Valencianos we can stimulate demand amongst French consumers,” he said. “This deal brings the number of major national and international retail chains opting to incorporate the PGI on their packaging to four, providing further evidence of the value a certified origin provides.”
The citrus will be supplied via Cooperativa de Bélgida Cofrudeca and sold under the Bio Oranges and Bio Clementines brands, mainly to stores in Brittany and Normandy.
