French retailer Casino has shown its support for the country's organic producers of fruit and vegetables with the announcement that it will prioritise French-grown organics over imports.
These domestically grown organics will now feature a sticker reading '100% origine France'.
According to Casino, the first items will receive the new Casino Bio '100% origine France' label this month, including courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes and peppers, followed by kiwifruit, apples and carrots in the summer.
'Harvested in the south of France, these fruit and vegetables have less distance to travel to reach our stores, which have a strong presence in the south, guaranteeing optimal freshness,' the company said. 'In addition, they are grown with respect for the seasons and picked when ripe, giving them undeniable quality in terms of taste and nutrition. Finally, as organic products, they are free of chemicals and are better for the environment.'
