Addition of two more advanced ships is part of plan to introduce greater fuel efficiency across its entire fleet, says company
Multinational logistics company DP World says two new additions to its Marine Services fleet will lead to cost savings and environmental benefits, as it looks to deploy more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly ships.
The newbuilds, Navios Utmost and Navios Unite, were officially named at a naming ceremony at the Changhong shipyard in Zhoushan, China, and join the group’s Unifeeder fleet.
According to DP World, both feature technologies that enhance cargo handling efficiency and reduce operational costs.
It estimates that Navios Utmost will save approximately 1,700 tonnes of fuel per year, leading to a 15-20 per cent reduction in its carbon emissions.
And it says the vessels’ compact design allows them toaccess to smaller ports and inland terminals, opening new opportunities to expand supply chain networks.
Navios Utmost will be part of Unifeeder’s Far East Madras Express Service, while the Navios Unite will join the Asian Gulf India Service.
“Investing in these state-of-the-art vessels underlines DP World’s unwavering commitment to driving sustainability and operational efficiency across the global maritime sector,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO.
“These vessels are a significant step forward in our efforts to reshape the future of global trade, ensuring it remains resilient and sustainable.”
