More than 220 tonnes of the Honeycrisp and Zestar cross will hit Australian shelves in 2025

Montague Farms has spotlighted the stand-out traits of SweeTango as the apple variety’s 2025 season ramps up.

The SweeTango season began early with Montague Farms harvesting across top-growing regions, including the Yarra Valley, Gippsland, Harcourt, and Shepparton. Montague Farms expects to harvest over 220 tonnes of the apple which will be available on shelves through late March.

“SweeTango is a truly unforgettable apple. Its short summer season makes you wish it was available year-round, but it also makes you savour each crispy bite even more.’” said Michelle Hau, spokesperson for Montague Farms.

Montague Farms will highlight the apple’s eating quality this season, particularly its crunch. According to the company, its texture has earned it the Guinness World Record title for the World’s Loudest Crunch.

“A cross between the Honeycrisp and Zestar varieties, SweeTango delivers a juicy watermelon-like flavour with a touch of citrus, honey, and spice. Its extremely light texture and refreshing taste make it ideal for those looking to enjoy a healthy, summer-inspired snack,” said Montague Farms in a release,

Since launching in Australia in 2022, SweeTango has caught consumers’ attention and has become the top-selling apple at Montague Farms’ Bill’s Orchard Gate.
