Australia’s Kanzi apple harvest has kicked off early, with excellent fruit quality reported across the country’s growing regions.
The fruit will be marketed as ‘fresh off the tree’ with the season running until July, with in-store promotions, tastings and merchandising to support sales.
This season, Kanzi sampling will also take place at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with further consumer advertising through food and lifestyle channels, and content to be supplied to good bloggers, emphasising the seasonality and freshness of the apples.
“We’re really excited about the growth potential of Kanzi, which does beautifully here in [Western Australia’s] Southern Forests, and in the domestic market pretty much just sells itself, but we have nowhere near enough volume yet,” Nicole Giblett from West Australian Newtown Orchards told Fruitnet.
The red-skinned Kanzi is a cross between a Braeburn and Royal Gala, with a sweet and tangy flavour and juicy crunch.
A full run-down of the Kanzi Greenstar Australia marketing campaign will feature in the autumn edition of Produce Plus.
