New Zealand apple marketer and exporter Enza is hoping to set a new world apple-eating record in a bid to promote its exclusive Jazz apples.
Enza’s Jazz publicity stunt – The Big Crunch – involves over 18,000 primary-school children from across New Zealand simultaneously biting into Jazz apples at 2.13pm local time on Friday (10 May).
BMX silver medalist Sarah Walker will count down to Jazz crunch time live on national radio.
“The aim is to tell people about Jazz apples, have some run, break a world record and give a whole bunch of kids the opportunity to become world record holders,” said Rosstan Mazey, Enza marketing manager.
Enza said it would donate a portion of the purchase price of Jazz Apple Snacker Packs for the month of May to New Zealand charity KidsCan, which distributes free lunches to disadvantaged children in more than 200 schools.
The current world apple-eating record stands at 9,329 is held by a group of schools in Michigan, US.
Kidscan director Julie Chapman said she fully supported the event: “The funds raised and the healthy-eating messages associated with this event will help us in our mission to give children a chance at a better start in life.”
