Nutrition Australia and Produce Marketing Australia-New Zealand (PMA A-NZ) are urging Australians to consume more fruit and vegetables during National Nutrition Week, which runs from 11-17 October, with the launch of the 'Pick Right. Feel Bright!' campaign.
“Only 5 per cent of Australians are eating enough fruit and vegetables,” said Lucinda Hancock, CEO of Nutrition Australia Victoria Division. “Fruits and vegetables help keep our minds and bodies healthy day-to-day, and reduce our risk of chronic disease in the future.
“Nutrition Australia is delighted to partner with the PMA A-NZ to call on all Aussies to pick more fruit and vegetables.”
Joining the campaign are children’s music group the Wiggles, the ambassadors for the PMA A-NZ ‘Pick Right. Feel Bright!’ campaign to encourage consumers of all ages to make the right choices when it comes to picking food.
“We need a powerful platform to ensure Australians understand the importance of eating more fresh produce,” said Renee Harrison, marketing manager of PMA A-NZ. “Most Australians are not eating the recommended two and five serves of fruit and vegetables every day which is leading to an epidemic in obesity and serious health conditions. Something has to be done and we were thrilled to have the Wiggles involved to help us amplify the ‘Pick Right. Feel Bright!’ message.”
PMA A-NZ has also launched its ‘Pick Right. Feel Bright!’ website, with recipes, nutrition information and plenty of resources to get Australians eating more fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.
