World’s biggest fruit and vegetable supplier commits to take part in projects that promote gender equality and female empowerment across the entire industry
The world’s largest fresh produce company, Dole, has given its official backing to female empowerment network Global Women Fresh.
Timed to coincide with International Women’s Day, the company confirmed it had joined the organisation as an ‘Empowered’ sponsor.
“As a board member of Global Woman Fresh (GWF), I’m delighted to welcome Dole, the company I represent and work for, to support our projects dedicated to women’s empowerment,” said Danitza Sanchez, business development director at Dole Europe BV.
It is widely acknowledged that female participation in the fresh produce business, especially at board and executive level, remains far below the percentage for men.
But as Sanchez pointed out, Dole is “deeply committed” to the promotion of gender equality across the global supply chain.
“I’ve seen Dole working actively to address gender gaps within the organisation,” she noted. “Our Key Talent Programme being an important case in point. But I know too that across our business we are determined to do more.”
Global effort
The partnership is expected to see Dole take part in projects that encourage greater female involvement at all levels of the business.
GWF itself continues to run a number of educational and professional development schemes, including online and in-person events, to make gender equality and female empowerment a reality.
Julie Escobar, the group’s president and co-founder, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Dole as our Empowered sponsor! Their commitment to empowering women within the fresh industry aligns perfectly with our mission, and we are excited to embark on this journey together.”
She added: “With Dole’s support, we look forward to making a meaningful impact, fostering positive change, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.”
