Zespri has been given a boost with the news that a study by Rutgers University in New Jersey, as well as the New York Times' 'Overall Nutrition Quality Index', has pegged its kiwifruit as the 'most nutrient dense superfruit', making it ideal for children returning to school after the holidays.
According to Zespri, the study pointed to kiwifruit being rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fibre, making the fruit'an easy way to provide children with the nourishment they need and crave'.
The New Zealand-based group also pointed out that chef and health campaigner Jamie Oliver's website declares kiwifruit as 'low in calories, low insugar, low in fat and rich in fibre content. Kiwifruit is rich and nutritious, so it is a good choice.'
'To assist in the growing obesity rate with children, Zespri Kiwifruitis a good diabetic option having a moderate to low glycemic index of 52, per 120 grams,' the group said. 'The Lance Armstrong Foundation states kiwifruit are 'ideal for weight management and diabetes control'.
