Fedemco has championed the certification, which is related to the eco-design and recyclability of wooden packaging
Spanish wooden packaging federation Fedemco has begun the process of rolling out the European certification mark Ecowoox internationally.
The new certification relates to the eco-design and recyclability of wooden packaging, and was presented by Artur Vélez, vice-president of Fedemco, in Brussels.
Fedemco said the advantages provided by the certification were, among others, verifying that wooden packaging was 100 per cent recyclable and provided high-quality waste that could be transformed into other wooden materials.
Thie meant an extended carbon cycle, greater circularity and avoiding early product recovery.
Ecowoox certifies all types of wooden packaging and is based on European standards UNE-EN 13427, UNE-EN 13428, UNE-EN 13429, UNE-EN 13430 and UNE-EN 13431.
The technical regulation has been designed to comply with the requirements of national and European standards for packaging and packaging waste.
”In just one year, the certification in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) has reached a market share of 80 per cent of fruit and vegetable wooden packaging,” Fedemco outlined.
”Now, thanks to the help of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ecowoox begins its European expansion as a sectoral mark.”
