Upmarket UK retailer Waitrose is targeting male consumers looking for healthy and convenient products with the launch of a new prepared salad pack designed specifically to boost sales among men.
The new creation, which is being dubbed the 'man salad', is aimed at piggybacking the so-called 'macho trend', which has involved trying to find the hottest curry dish or chilli sauce on the market.
?The Waitrose Hot and Fiery Salad features an eye-watering combination containing inferno rocket and nasturtium leaves that are exclusive to the supermarket.
Greek cress and radish leaves complete the peppery mix, which also includes butterhead.
The spicy concoction will be sold in 180 Waitrose branches, priced at £1.49 (€1.67) per bag.
?Sales of watercress, rocket and spinach salad bags at Waitrose surged by 73 per cent in the past year, according to the retailer.
Hot and Fiery Salad is part of a new range of Menu From Waitrose salads grown in Lincolnshire for the supermarket.
The range of salads will be available over the summer and features the Hot and Fiery Salad, Rustic Country Salad, Inferno Rocket Salad, Bistro Salad and English Garden Salad.
Waitrose salad buyer Rhonwen Cunningham said: 'Salads are changing because of `the spicy` trend, so we decided to man-up our salad aisle by launching what we believe is the hottest mix of leaves that's ever been sold by a supermarket.'
