VI.P has organised an event in Madrid to encourage greater awareness of food consumption as a means to improving health and wellbeing.
The South Tyrol-based apple giant enlisted the help of nutritionists and psychologists at its ‘Conscious Food: Wake up your senses’ day to promote more conscious food intake through the practice of mindful eating, a practice related to Mindfulness meditation techniques.
Followers of the trend claim that being completely concentrated in the present and mindful of the stimuli our body receives when eating can lower stress and help people to reduce their calorie intake – findings which have been borne out by medical studies.
“The bad habits that accompany the current frenetic rhythm of modern life have normalised pernicious behaviour relating to food, such as not paying enough time and attention at mealtimes,” VI.P said in a press release.
“Scenes of people chewing anything in front of the computer or television, or while rushing around, are commonplace today.
“Among the benefits of mindful eating are weight control and an improved relationship with food, as it encourages us to choose healthier foods and dedicate enough time and space to eat in a balanced way, without regrets.”
