Four ports in the region of Valencia have been earmarked for development following the signing last week of a cooperation agreement between the Spanish government and the regional government in Valencia.
Under the terms of the deal signed by Spanish development minister Ana Pastor and the president of the Region of Valencia, Alberto Fabra, a feasibility study will be undertaken into the construction of intermodal logistics terminals at the ports of Valencia-Fuente de San Luis, Alicante, Sagunto and Castellón through a public-private financing initiative.
The move is part of a wider government policy to improve Spain’s intermodal network. The Ministry of Development has drawn up a 12-year plan to extend the country’s transport infrastructure, set to run till 2024, which includes the construction of intermodal logistics terminals in each of the country’s autonomous communities.
