In a continuing effort to reach more consumers and educators with food safety information, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) has launched Pregúntele a Karen (Ask Karen) and a FSIS Spanish language Twitter feed.
These new features are meant to further prevent foodborne illnesses and promote food safety by reaching out to a broader audience of consumers, according to a statement from the USDA.
“We are excited to be able to provide America’s Spanish speaking community additional tools to prevent foodborne illness,” said FSIS administrator Al Almanza.
“Now, Spanish-speaking consumers will be able to ask questions and receive immediate safe food handling and consumer food safety education information using Pregúntele a Karen and following us on our Spanish Twitter account.”
FSIS currently offers hundreds of fact sheets and publications on a variety of food safety topics and for a variety of audiences.
Now, consumers and educators can quickly access a variety of Spanish-translated information on FSIS’ “En Español” web page.
The FSIS’ Spanish language Fact Sheets are organised by topic and subject, and they all feature a sharing tool that allows customers to bookmark and share content through various social destinations, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Pregúntele a Karen (Ask Karen) is a virtual food safety representative with information for consumers about preventing foodborne illness, safe food handling and storage, and safe preparation of meat, poultry, and egg products.
