United Fresh

In the US, a joint task force between the United Fresh Produce Association and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) is looking at the potential for a merger of the country's two national fresh produce trade organisations.

According to a report by The Packer, the task force is being led by immediate past chairwoman of the United Fresh Produce Association Steffanie Smith, and outgoing PMA chairman Mike O'Brien.

They lead a joint panel of 12 people, with six from each organisation, while both groups have reportedly committed resources to carry out due diligence over the possible merger.

Smith told The Packer that the task force was created to look at 'potential synergies and future opportunities', but would not comment specifically on a merger.
