Backed by promotional activities from interprofessional organisation Interfel, French apples have enjoyed a successful 2011/12 season in their biggest market, the UK.
The Le Crunch campaign, which took place between September 2011 and May this year, has included price promotions, on-pack promotions, leaflets, gifts and competitions to win iPads and trips to Disneyland.
Promotions were held in a number of major retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and the Co-operative, as well as in wholesale markets throughout the UK.
Around 400 varieties of apple are grown in France, with Gala, Braeburn, Granny Smith, Golden and Pink Lady being the most popular in the UK, where French apples command a 31.5 per cent share of the market.
