Luciano Trentini, director of Italian fresh produce research and promotion agency CSO, has been appointed as the new president of the European Commission's agricultural promotion advisory committee.
During a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, 2 March, Mr Trentini formally took on the new role and immediately underlined his commitment to supporting the sector.
'I believe my presidency comes at a crucial time for European agriculture,' he commented, 'with the Common Agricultural Policy as well as other promotional policies due to be revised.'
The advisory committee brings together various representatives of the EU production sector and members of the EC, who work in close contact to introduce mechanisms and procedures geared towards optimising promotional activities for European products.
A number of major agricultural organisations, including CELCAA, CIAA and Copa-Cogeca are involved in the advisory group.
