Belgium-based fresh produce company Univeg Group has made a significant new addition to its corporate team with the addition of Manfred Pülm (pictured below) as its new sustainability coordinator.
Pülm joins the company from German organic specialist Lehmann Natur, where he served for five years as the head of quality management, and will be based in Bremen, Germany, as part of Univeg Group's quality management unit.
In his new role, Pülm will be responsible for improving the sustainability of Univeg's fruit and vegetable business and for the further development of the company's organic quality management systems.
According to the company, this will involve working closely with Univeg's key customers and producers in order to implement 'projects which improve the social and environmental balance of the group's fruit and vegetable supply chains'.
Pülm will also be responsible for developing systems that monitor and measure sustainability within Univeg's fruit and vegetables operations.
'Sustainability is a complex and challenging issue, but small changes can have a huge impact in a volume-driven business,' commented Ben Horsbrugh, director of quality management.
'There is significant potential to improve the sustainability of fruit and vegetable supply chains, and we are very confident that Manfred's expertise and leadership will enable Univeg to identify opportunities, set standards and implement meaningful changes which will benefit all of our stakeholders - both now and in the future.'
