Strong sales of organic greenhouse vegetables contributed to an overall rise in Dutch organic food exports in 2014. Junior economic affairs minister Sharon Dijksma said organic greenhouse vegetable sales went up from €43m in 2013 to €50m, the biggest increase across all food groups, according to a report in Dutch News.
Speaking at an organic food fair in Germany, Dijksma said there are more than 3,600 companies exporting organic food products from the Netherlands. Germany, Belgium and France are the three main markets for Dutch organics. Overall organic food exports rose by 11 per cent to €928m. Eggs were the leading item, followed by carrots, tomatoes, cheese and pork.
