Spanish stonefruit and berry producer Fresh Royal has launched a new brand for pluots, dubbed 'Brontos', which is aimed at marketing the recently developed fruit to housewives and children.
The Huelva-based company launched the brand, which features a cartoon Brontosaurus, at the Fruit Attraction trade fair in Madrid, Spain, alongside a new marketing initiative for its blueberry production, called BlueBBerries.
According to Fresh Royal's Alexander Koch, the Brontos brand will be used to promote the company's pluots, which are a cross between plums and apricots, in its key markets, such as Germany.
'It's been designed to appeal to housewives and children‚ we believe the logo with the brontosaurus will grab the attention of children,' he said.
Mr Koch said the company had also chosen to launch BlueBBerries to help drive sales in the category. The unusual brand name had been chosen, he explained, to emphasise the connection between the blue colour of the fruit and its anti-oxidant properties.
