This week, Ripe, which opened the UAE's first organic market in Dubai in September, announced the launch of its second market, in the Desert Garden Centre in Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Park.
The market is set to be open every Friday, offering local, seasonal and organic produce all hand-picked within 48 hours of the market.
According to Ripe nutritionist Belinda Rennie, the market's presence should help parents to increase their children's consumption of fruit and vegetables.
'One of the biggest stressors for parents is how to feed their kids vegetables,' she said, 'and in a country where they don’t see much growing that’s edible, kids are a bit sceptical about the whole two fruits and five veg per day.'
This week's boxes reportedly include a wide variety of produce, including
aubergines, radishes, sweetcorn, courgettes, lettuce, rocket, watercress, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes and herbs.
