Rewe 'to restructure produce buying'

Media reports in Germany have suggested that Rewe Group is planning to introduce a new platform structure and an organisational arrangement to improve its buying of fresh fruit and vegetables.

According to a piece in Lebensmittel Zeitung, the retailer is to work on a base system for the supply of these goods with four platforms spread throughout Germany, Planet Retail reported.

While the grocer would not confirm this, it did tell the German publication that a contract for a location in Munich had been completed.

The report suggested that Rewe is to work alongside specialists in the produce sector who will bunch goods and distribute them to other countries.
