Rewe International is to complete the purchase of Austrian supermarket chain Adeg österreich Genossenschaft (AöG), meaning the addition of some 500 outlets to its store portfolio.
The central European arm of the German retailer's business acquired 75 per cent of AöG's shares last year, and has now struck an agreement to purchase the remaining 25 per cent, the Austrian Independent reported.
Rewe noted that good cooperation with AöG's shop managers had proved a success in recent months, with the group benefiting from Rewe's logistics services.
Rewe International manages the group's activities across eight European countries, and already has an extensive presence in Austria through supermarket chain Billa, discounter Penny Marky, drugstore Bipa and a number of other businesses.
