In Germany, Rewe is expected to invest some €150m over the next 12 months to refurbish its Penny discount supermarket chain in the country.
Local reports suggested that Rewe was looking to upgrade some 800 outlets, concentrating on layout and logistics, KamCity reported.
In addition, the group is expected to close 100 unprofitable stores from its overall portfolio of 2,400 in 2012, while Rewe will also launch a new Penny logo during the spring.
