Retail group Rewe is preparing to distribute free bags containing healthy food and drinks – including fresh fruit – to schoolchildren across Germany, the company has revealed.
Each of the bags will contain an apple, a banana, an orange, a pear and a kiwifruit (plus a spoon), as well as a carton of fruit juice and cereal bars.
In addition, the children will receive a fluorescent reflector, a timetable and a bookmark.
The bags will be distributed at the start of the school year in a number of German cities, from 6 August until 10 September.
'It is extremely important to know how to eat healthily even from an early age, when eating habits are already formed,' commented Lionel Souque, chief executive of Rewe Supermarkets in Germany.
