A healthy eating initiative is being rolled out across the UK in an effort to encourage families that they can still eat healthy on a budget, according to a report by BBC News.
The government’s Change 4 Life campaign has already won the support of three retailers – Asda, Aldi and The Co-op – who have pledged to offer discounts on products including fruit, vegetables and fish, the report said.
As part of the drive, 4m so-called Supermeals recipe leaflets will be mailed to those signed up to the scheme.
Celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott has helped to devise a cookbook promoting healthy dishes, with recipes that can be created for under £5 and has filmed a video cooking the meals.
Many of the ingredients will be discounted at the three supermarket chains signed up to the campaign, according to the report.
The scheme has been criticised by Labour, however, with Shadow public health minister Diane Abbott claiming the move is a “glorified advertisement for big business”.
